VeriSign Announces DNS Behavior Changes

I came across a situation which resulted in a domain not showing on some computers.....which seems to have affected Comcast users in the Seattle, Washington area. This particular domain was showing up fine on my pc, as well as others' pc's across the country.

After some troubleshooting efforts which didn't have any favorable results, I decided to call the hosting company on behalf of my client, to see if there was a problem on the dedicated server where the domain resides.

The first thing the tech advised me of was that VeriSign had announce that as of March 1, 2010, there would be a DNS Behavior change which would affect the .com, .net and .edu nameservers behaviors and how nameservers work previous to and after March 1, 2010.. You can read the article by clicking here. If you are NOT technically inclined, don't worry about it - it's for us "geeks!"

The tech and I also discovered that the domain itself was missing a digit from the assigned IP Address, and was "missing" from Whois information. The fact that the .com domain was attached to a .biz nameserver leads me to believe the aboive mentioned article didn't come into play in this case, but at least it was an eye-opener.
